SHAH ALAM, July 24 — Victims of a storm that hit Kampung Melayu Subang on April 6 today received cash aid from the MBI Foundation.

MBI Foundation chief Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said RM62,000 was allocated for the endeavour, with each of the 124 victims receiving RM500.

“We received an application from Kota Damansara assemblyman Izuan Kasim and the Kampung Melayu Subang Village Development and Safety Committee for aid for the victims.

“Thank God, the application was approved, and it is hoped that the contribution can more or less lighten the burdens of affected families,” Azri said when met at the aid presentation ceremony at Surau Nurrur Rahman, Kampung Melayu Subang, today.

Meanwhile, aid recipient Marniza Othman, 41, shared her distressing experience in the disaster, when a loud sound caused her roof to be suddenly blown off.

“Around 4pm, I was putting my child to sleep when I heard a thunder-like sound. We panicked and when we looked outside, we saw a strong swirl of wind and heavy rain.

“(The damage to) my house may not be as bad as other neighbours’, but the effect is still felt. Thank you to the state government for this assistance as it was highly anticipated by affected residents,” she said.

Another victim, Mohd Fuaad Ramli, 55, said he and his family weren’t at home during the incident, and was only informed by neighbours before they rushed back.

“I was shocked to see property damage. Roofs were blown off by the storm and furniture was wet from the rain. Losses were estimated to reach RM10,000.

“I’ve lived here for almost eight years and this was the worst storm so far. The aid we received today could more or less help us with urgent household needs,” he said.

Another resident, Mohd Sallih Bustamam, 49, said his family is still traumatised from the incident.

“I grew up in Kampung Melayu Subang and have never experienced something like this. I hope it doesn’t happen again.

“I am grateful to MBI and the state government for the aid given. Even though it doesn’t match our losses, it is still a relief,” Sallih said.

On April 6, a fierce storm hit Kampung Melayu Subang, damaging tens of homes and vehicles. Residents contacted authorities for help after seeing trees being uprooted and roofs being blown off.
