GOMBAK, Aug 28 — The state government will focus on improving students’ academic achievements under the 2027 Selangor Budget, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He explained that this includes strengthening support systems to help students do better in exams, as well as improving students’ involvement in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields.
“There are several approaches we will take to bring students closer to their communities so they may also serve and contribute to their communities,” he told reporters after launching the Gombak Form 6 College and the STPM top achievers’ awards ceremony here today.
Amirudin said Selangor has around a million students with the potential to greatly impact state development.
“If these one million students can get excellent results and give good impact to the community, it would produce a very positive result for Selangor,” he added.
The 2026 Selangor Budget allocated RM136.2 million to empower the education system statewide, including RM2 million to develop university students through conventions, varsity programmes, and the Kita Selangor Tertiary Students Tour.
The funds also went to higher learning initiatives and the Smart Selangor Technical Skills and Expertise Initiative (IKTISASS), which include research grants, book vouchers, and the Basic University Fee Assistance (BAYU).
The state government also provided partial tuition for Selangorborns enrolled in Universiti Selangor (UNISEL) and Universiti Islam Selangor (UIS).
