SINGAPORE, Aug 27 — The Singapore Red Cross (SRC) has pledged S$50,000 (RM158,581) in humanitarian aid to support immediate response and relief efforts following the devastating flash flood near the Nepal-China border.
The aid includes distributing drinking water and emergency supplies such as tarpaulins, blankets, sleeping mats, first aid kits, and body bags.
It will also launch a public fundraising appeal beginning tomorrow for the communities affected by the disaster.
"The funds raised will be channelled through the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and other humanitarian partners to support ground operations and to address humanitarian needs and developments on the ground," the SRC said in a statement today.
It has also activated the Restoring Family Links service, which helps reconnect individuals who have lost contact after emergencies.
"Those who have lost contact with their family members or have missing loved ones in Nepal or Tibet may contact the SRC for support, regardless of nationality. They can email rfl@redcross.sg for assistance," the SRC said.
Its secretary-general cum chief executive officer Benjamin William said the organisation is closely monitoring the situation and stands ready to deploy a team to support its partners on the ground.
"Critical infrastructure has been severely damaged, making it hard to reach the remaining communities. There are warnings of further flooding, and the extent of the devastation might still grow," he said.
