KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 27 — Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said that the Cabinet has approved in principle the proposed development of the Bandar Malaysia-Seri Kembangan Elevated Expressway (BSE).
The decision reflects the MADANI government’s commitment to providing high-impact infrastructure that benefits the people, spurs economic growth, and enhances the country’s competitiveness in a sustainable manner.
The BSE, a strategic infrastructure project with the potential to strengthen the transport network and improve connectivity in the Greater Kuala Lumpur area, had been proposed as a high-capacity link integrating several major highway networks.
These include the Kuala Lumpur-Seremban Expressway, the Maju Highway, the Sungai Besi Expressway, the New Pantai Expressway, the Shah Alam Highway, and the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Dispersal System highway network.
“The development of an elevated highway along this strategic alignment has the potential to provide an alternative route for motorists and facilitate movement between the northern, southern, and east coast corridors of Peninsular Malaysia.
“Better connectivity is also expected to enhance public mobility, strengthen logistics efficiency and facilitate the movement of goods,” he said in a statement.
Nanta added that, from a public well-being perspective, the BSE can reduce travel times and improve access to employment centres, educational institutions, and public services.
In line with the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI, the development of the BSE is not merely the construction of a new highway but is a long-term investment in strengthening connectivity, inclusive development, and the competitiveness of the country’s economy.
“Following the approval in principle, the Works Ministry (KKR), together with relevant agencies, including the Public-Private Partnership Unit, will conduct negotiations and detailed assessments to finalise the project’s implementation structure.
“The government will ensure that every aspect of this project is thoroughly evaluated, especially in terms of public interest, value for money for the country, and fiscal sustainability, before any final decisions are made on its implementation,” he said.
The proposed development of the BSE will also be guided by a private-sector financing approach, thus ensuring its implementation would not involve direct financial commitment from the federal government.
Nanta said the government will also selectively examine some other infrastructure solution proposals to complete road networks and address traffic congestion in the Klang Valley.
The proposal would be considered based on strategic needs, capacity enhancement, and impact on traffic flow.
“KKR will continue to ensure that the subsequent process is carried out thoroughly, transparently and in the interest of the people and the country, in line with the government’s commitment to develop a more efficient, integrated, and sustainable transport system to support economic growth and improve the people’s quality of life,” he concluded.
