PETALING JAYA, Aug 27 — The Selangor Youth Community Disabled Entrepreneurs League (SAY LEAD) programme is helping participants strengthen their business management fundamentals, better preparing them to compete in the market.
State executive councillor for entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said some participants previously had a limited understanding of branding, marketing and financial management, but had shown improvement after undergoing training and guidance through the programme.
“Some were also less proficient in accounting and were unable to calculate profits and losses or distinguish between costs and sales revenue.
“But now, their businesses are managed in a more structured manner,” he said when met at the final round of the Selangor Disabled Entrepreneurs League here yesterday.
According to Najwan, participants were assessed not only on the products they sold, but also on their commitment, feedback from coaches and mastery of the knowledge acquired throughout the programme.
“We want to see how well they understand their own businesses, whether they have clear objectives and whether they are able to apply the knowledge gained throughout the programme,” he said.
Najwan said the programme was among the state government’s efforts to unlock the potential of disabled entrepreneurs and provide them with opportunities to expand their businesses.
He said disabled entrepreneurs possessed creativity and potential across various sectors, including food and beverage (F&B), creative industries and spa services.
“This is among the state government’s efforts to develop the potential of disabled entrepreneurs and ensure they have opportunities to grow and compete in the market,” he said.
He also stressed that people with disabilities should continue to be given opportunities to participate in society and become part of an ecosystem in which people support one another and contribute to the wider community.
Najwan also expressed hope that participants would continue to make use of the knowledge and opportunities gained through the programme to grow their respective businesses.
“At the same time, the skills and knowledge they possess can be shared with the community so that the benefits extend beyond their own circles,” he said.
