State govt waiting for technical report on Sunway roller coaster accident

SEPANG, Aug 26 — The state government is waiting for the technical report on the accident involving the roller coaster ride at Sunway Lagoon theme park, Subang Jaya, on Saturday (August 22). 

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the document is crucial to enable a comprehensive investigation and to prioritise safety. 

“I am waiting for the technical report from the police as they are currently conducting a thorough investigation on the incident,” he told the media after the handover ceremony for the Haj Muassasah Incentive donation for the Dengkil constituency at the Putra Perdana Community Hall, Puchong.

On August 22, an accident at 9pm involving a roller coaster carrying 22 passengers, which injured 10 people. 

Subang Jaya district police chief ACP Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said the ride included foreign tourists aged between 11 and 44. 

The 10 victims who suffered minor injuries were brought to the nearest medical centres near Subang Jaya for treatment, while no deaths were reported. 

Earlier today, Sunway Theme Parks confirmed an accident at Sunway Lagoon on Saturday and said it is providing medical assistance to those affected.

Its management said that since the incident, it has focused on the victims' care and well-being while staying in close contact with them and their families.
