MELAKA, Aug 26 — Two women were injured after allegedly slipping from an inflatable raft while riding the ‘Tornado Chaser and Pendulum’ water slide at a theme park and resort in Ayer Keroh on Saturday.
Melaka Tengah district police chief ACP Halim Abas said the women, aged 46 and 31, suffered a blood clot in the head and a concussion respectively following the incident, which occurred at about 2.30 pm.
“Based on investigations, the two women were on holiday at the theme park and resort with several other family members before they decided to ride the water slide.
“Both victims said they were using a double raft, with one of them seated at the front and the other at the back,” he said in a statement last night.
Halim said that while the raft was travelling down the slide, it suddenly struck something, causing one of the women to hit her head against the wall of the slide. Both women reportedly lost consciousness following the impact.
He said both victims were rushed to hospital for treatment.
A computed tomography (CT) scan on the 46-year-old woman revealed a blood clot on the right side of her head. She also suffered injuries to her chin and right knee, as well as chest pain.
Halim said the 31-year-old woman could not remember the incident and was found to have suffered a concussion and body aches.
Meanwhile, Melaka Tourism Promotion Division general manager Nasrul Ahmad reminded all theme park and tourism centre operators in the state to always prioritise visitor safety at their premises.
He said inspections and maintenance of facilities, theme park rides and equipment must be carried out regularly to ensure they remain safe and function properly.
“We do not want accidents like this to happen again, especially due to negligence or poorly maintained equipment.
“This is important because Melaka has many tourism products that attract visitors from within and outside the state, especially during weekends or long holidays, and we do not want their holidays in Melaka to turn into a bad or unpleasant experience,” he said in a statement yesterday.
