SHAH ALAM, Aug 25 — The public has been urged to report open burning to the authorities to help prevent air pollution and reduce the risk of fires.
Rawang assemblyman Chua Wei Kiat said open burning not only produces smoke and unpleasant odours but can also affect residents’ health and increase the risk of fires.
“Don’t let a small fire cause pollution across an entire area.
“Burning rubbish can cause haze and hazardous smoke, air pollution and health risks,” he said in a Facebook post.
Chua advised anyone who witnesses open burning to record the location, date and time of the incident, as well as take photographs or videos as evidence before lodging a report with the relevant authorities.
“If the fire spreads or the situation becomes dangerous, please call 999 or the Fire and Rescue Department immediately,” he said.
Complaints about open burning can also be lodged with the Department of Environment at 03-8889 1972 or its hotline at 1-800-88-2727, while complaints to the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) can be made at 03-6126 5800.
The public was also urged to dispose of waste properly to help keep communities clean and safe.
