MARANG, Aug 25 — A male prisoner died after he was believed to have been beaten by three other inmates at a prison in the district yesterday.
Marang district police chief Supt Sofian Redzuan said police received a report of the case at 12.31pm yesterday, and the incident reportedly stemmed from an old debt and the three suspects' dissatisfaction with the victim.
The 38-year-old victim was pronounced dead due to a ruptured spleen, believed to have been caused by blunt force trauma such as punches or kicks.
"The victim, who was from Terengganu, was beaten in a room by three suspects aged between 21 and 35. He was then taken to the Merchang Health Clinic for treatment but was pronounced dead by a medical officer.
“The victim's body was sent to the Forensic Department of the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital for a post-mortem," he said in a statement today.
Sofian added that the three suspects, also from Terengganu, had been detained for further investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
