KLANG, Aug 24 — Selangor’s cricket team today took gold in the SUKMA men’s T20 event at Bayuemas Oval here.
In the final, Selangor claimed victory with a six-wicket advantage in the 16th over and 78 runs, beating the Federal Territories’s 76 runs in the first round.
Selangor coach Roshan Senna Singh said he is happy with his team’s performance.
“We dominated this game, but our turning point was in the group stage against Johor when we defended 75 runs.
“After the game, the team’s momentum kept growing, with such high quality from our players, and we played with confidence and dominated the game well,” he told Media Selangor.
He also said the team has the best line-up the state has ever seen, having won two consecutive golds.
“This is the first team in SUKMA cricket history that has won two consecutive golds. For me, this is the best team I’ve ever seen, so I want to thank them,” Roshan added.
Earlier, Selangor took gold in the men’s T50 after defeating Johor.
Meanwhile, team captain Muhammad Ashraf Azmi said he is proud to have given Selangor two gold medals.
“Thank God, I am so happy today. This is our blessing after we all trained and worked hard for a year, so this is our blessing; two golds,” he added.
He also said he hopes future Selangor players for the coming SUKMA in Kelantan manage to defend their top spot.
“This is my last SUKMA, and I think we’ve done our best. For upcoming players I hope they can defend this gold,” Ashraf said.
