SHAH ALAM, Aug 23 — Three weather monitoring stations in Selangor showed unhealthy Air Pollution Index (API) readings as of 5pm today, involving Johan Setia, Shah Alam and Kuala Selangor.

Johan Setia had the worst reading at 160, followed by Shah Alam at 135 and Kuala Selangor at 118.

Besides the three areas, six other localities in three other states also had unhealthy API readings, with four of them in Sarawak.

The six areas are Sungai Petani in Kedah (153), Taiping in Perak (112), and Sarawak’s Kuching (176), Samarahan (173), IPD Serian (186) and Sri Aman (173).

The Environment Department (DOE) said it would continue monitoring ambient air quality nationwide via 68 monitoring stations to detect any change that could affect public and environmental health, with API data updated every hour on its MyEQMS site.

An API reading of 0 to 50 is good, 51 to 100 is moderate, 101 to 200 is unhealthy, 201 to 300 is very unhealthy, and 300 and above is hazardous.
