SHAH ALAM, Aug 19 — The Kuala Selangor Municipal Council's (MPKS) Commissioner of Buildings (COB), together with the police and Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT), conducted a surveillance and seizure operation at a strata scheme in Saujana Utama on August 18.

MPKS said an investigation found suspected misappropriation involving about RM178,000 in funds allocated for maintenance.

“The operation, which started at 10 am at the scheme's management office, was carried out to obtain documents and information related to the management, administration and finances of the scheme for further investigation under Section 125 of the Strata Management Act 2013 (Act 757).

“The findings of the investigation revealed elements of misappropriation involving funds allocated for maintenance, and the relevant documents were seized to assist in further investigations,” the council said in a Facebook post.

MPKS added that nine management committee members were appointed during the 10th Annual General Meeting (AGM), but four were no longer eligible under Section 2 of Schedule 2 of the Strata Management Act 2013.

It said three other management committee members had resigned, leaving only two members, below the minimum requirement of three to form a committee.

“In this regard, COB MPKS has appointed managing agents under Section 86 of the Strata Management Act 2013 (Act 757) to ensure that the administration, management and maintenance of the strata scheme can be carried out in an orderly manner until the next AGM and the formation of a new management committee.

“COB is still conducting investigations under Section 125 and related provisions of the Strata Management Act 2013 (Act 757). If the investigation uncovers any wrongdoing or criminal activity outside the provisions of the Act, the information will be forwarded to the relevant authorities, particularly the police, for further action,” it added.

MPKS also reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the proper governance of strata schemes.

“The council is committed to ensuring that strata scheme management is carried out transparently, with integrity and in accordance with legal provisions to protect the interests and well-being of the strata community,” it said.
