SUKMA 2026: Selangor overpower defending champions Federal Territories

PETALING JAYA, Aug 15 — The Selangor men’s football squad got their 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) campaign off to a winning start after defeating Federal Territories 3-1 in their Group C match today.

Playing at the MBPJ Stadium in Kelana Jaya, Federal Territories started strongly and came close to opening the scoring as early as the second minute, but their attempt was denied by the Selangor goalkeeper.

Both sides then traded attacks before Selangor broke the deadlock in the 31st minute through Rohisyam Haiqal Hashim, who headed home from a free-kick taken outside the penalty area.

Three minutes later, Selangor were awarded a penalty after a Federal Territories defender fouled the home side’s attacker.

Mohamad Haykal Danish calmly converted the spot kick to beat Federal Territories goalkeeper Hazriq Haqqim, putting Selangor 2-0 ahead.

In the second half, defending champions Federal Territories stepped up the pressure on Selangor with wave after wave of attacks in an effort to reduce the deficit.

Their efforts paid off in the 68th minute when substitute Muhammad Ariff Aiman finished off an attacking move to pull one back.

The goal spurred Federal Territories on as they searched for an equaliser, but Selangor restored their two-goal advantage through Mohamad Zarul Aidid in the 80th minute.

The goal secured a 3-1 victory for Selangor, earning them three points in their opening Group C match.
