JAKARTA, Aug 12 — Indonesia has announced an increase in its visa-on-arrival (VOA) fee from 500,000 rupiah (RM114.31) to between 750,000 rupiah (RM171.46) and one million rupiah (RM228.62) as part of an adjustment to its immigration charges.

ANTARA News Agency reported that Immigration Director General Hendarsam Marantoko said the adjustment took into account fluctuations in the rupiah exchange rate, with the existing fee considered too low in terms of state revenue.

“When they fill in their e-visa in their country, they will be charged 750,000 rupiah. What is the purpose? To prevent congestion upon arrival at the airport,” he said today.

Hendarsam added that those who had not completed the application before arrival would instead be charged one million rupiah, a higher rate intended to encourage travellers to complete the process in advance.

The move also aims to improve immigration services and reduce queues at airports, as Indonesia seeks to maintain and improve Soekarno-Hatta International Airport’s standing in the Skytrax World Airport Awards.
