Subang Jaya river search ends after boy found drowned

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 11 — A seven-year-old Indonesian boy who fell into a river at Persiaran Subang Indah, Subang Jaya, yesterday was found drowned today.

The boy’s body was found by rescuers at 10.59am, about 3km from where he was reported to have fallen.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director (Operations) Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the victim was identified by his parents at noon before the body was handed over to police for further action.

“The body was taken to the Serdang Hospital, while the search and rescue (SAR) operation, which was activated last night, was called off at 12.20pm,” he said in a statement.

Today’s SAR operation was extended for more than 8km towards Sri Muda and Sungai Kandis, involving three JBPM boats and nine personnel, as well as a Fire Rescue Tender and a four-wheel-drive vehicle.

JBPM received an emergency call about the incident at 8.06pm yesterday and activated the SAR operation to search the area.

The boy was believed to have fallen into the river at 6.30pm while playing with his friends.
