SHAH ALAM, August 7 — The state government will launch a Selangor Dignified Living Index to better measure the effectiveness of aid programmes and improve residents’ quality of life under the Second Selangor Plan (RS-2), said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He explained that the multidimensional tool would reflect the realities and cost-of-living challenges faced by urban communities.
“From the perspective of addressing the cost of living, the state government will develop the Selangor Dignified Living Index, which encompasses multidimensional benchmarks in line with the challenges of life in urban areas.
“The development of this index, which will be driven through the state’s new statistical unit, will examine the effectiveness of assistance and household support programmes and be evaluated every 12 and 24 months to review the progress in the lives of aid recipients,” he said when tabling RS-2 at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly here today.
The initiative is part of RS-2’s Mission 3: A Caring and Liveable State, which includes expanding access to affordable housing, strengthening social support, and improving Selangoreans’ quality of life.
Meanwhile, Amirudin also reaffirmed the state’s target of delivering 200,000 Rumah Selangorku Harapan and Idaman affordable homes to first-time homeowners.
To date, he said 64,188 units have been completed, while 69,014 units are under construction.
He added that the Smart Sewa scheme will also be expanded to 3,000 rental units by 2030, while the state will continue developing the Greater Klang Valley, which encompasses Klang, Shah Alam, Subang Jaya and Petaling Jaya, into a model Southeast Asian metropolis.
“In addition, infrastructure in villages will also be upgraded as part of efforts to preserve heritage assets for future generations,” Amirudin said.
