SHAH ALAM, Aug 3 — The 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) will see 52 venues, including facilities owned by public higher education institutions, used to host events, said SUKMA Secretariat chief executive officer Dato' Mohd Yazid Sairi.
Most of the venues are managed by the local authorities, while the National Velodrome in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, is provided by the Youth and Sports Ministry.
"We have received excellent cooperation from the local authorities. The same goes for other government agencies, for example the Selangor State Development Corporation, which built the tennis courts.
"We have also received assistance from government agencies such as Institut Penilaian Negara, as well as public universities including Universiti Teknologi MARA and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia," he told Media Selangor.
Yazid added that organising the biennial Games has also fostered collaboration with private companies, while several venues have been rented to ensure the competitions run as smoothly as possible.
"These include Sime Darby and the Kuala Selangor Area Farmers' Organisation. In addition, some venues have been rented from private companies to provide facilities for SUKMA events," he said.
The 22nd SUKMA will feature 469 events across 37 sports in nine districts, involving 52 venues throughout Selangor during the Games from August 15 to August 24.
Meanwhile, the Para SUKMA will be held from September 5 to September 14, featuring 369 events across 10 sports, including swimming, athletics, badminton, table tennis, tenpin bowling, lawn bowls, and archery.
The opening ceremony is scheduled to take place at Dataran Kemerdekaan, Shah Alam. In addition to the 15 state contingents, Brunei Darussalam will also participate as an invited contingent.
SUKMA Selangor will be the country's second-last major national sporting event before Kelantan hosts the Games in 2028. As host state, Selangor has set a target of winning 80 gold medals.
