SHAH ALAM, Aug 1 — The Selangor government will review the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the management of stray animals across all local authorities following the death of a canine during a stray dog capture operation in Taman Teluk Gedung Indah, Port Klang.
State executive councillor for local government and tourism Dato’ Ng Suee Lim said the review would cover training, operational procedures, and collaboration with the Veterinary Services Department and relevant stakeholders.
He said the review aims to ensure enforcement operations are carried out more effectively, safely, and humanely.
Ng added that the state government takes the incident seriously, emphasising the need to strike a balance between public safety and animal welfare.
“Every enforcement operation must be conducted professionally, prudently, and in accordance with the law and established SOPs,” he said in a statement today.
Ng said the state government also noted that the Royal Klang City Council (MBDK) had lodged a police report over the incident and that the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) had opened an investigation paper.
Accordingly, he said the state government would leave the matter entirely to the police to conduct an independent, transparent, and professional investigation.
He urged all parties to respect the investigation process and refrain from speculation.
Ng said the state government also upholds the decree and statement by the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, who emphasised compassion towards animals and the principle that no one is above the law.
He said these values would continue to underpin the state’s policies and actions.
Ng stressed that the Selangor government remains committed to safeguarding public safety while strengthening animal welfare practices and maintaining public confidence in the integrity and professionalism of government institutions.
