SHAH ALAM, July 25 — Approximately 40 tonnes of locally grown fruit are being offered to the public during the 2026 Selangor Fruit Festival, including MD2 pineapples priced from as low as RM1 under its Happy Hour promotion.
State executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Dato' Izham Hashim said the promotion was introduced to enable the public to purchase locally grown fruit at more affordable prices.
"We have our Happy Hour promotion featuring discounted sales. In a short while, we will begin selling MD2 pineapples, which normally retail for RM8 to RM10, for just RM1.
"We have prepared sufficient stock for the public," he said after officiating the festival at Aneka Walk, Section 14 yesterday.
In addition to MD2 pineapples priced at RM1 and RM2 each during the Happy Hour promotion, visitors will also have the opportunity to purchase nangchem for RM2 each.
Meanwhile, mangosteens, rambutans, dokong, pulasan, and several other fruits are being sold at RM2 per kg.
The festival, which runs until tomorrow from 10am to 10pm, brings together 27 entrepreneurs, comprising 10 fruit growers operating 17 sales lots, 16 agro-product entrepreneurs, and one ornamental fish entrepreneur.
The event is targeting 10,000 visitors and RM250,000 in sales over its three-day duration. It aims to boost sales of locally grown fruit, improve public access to fresh produce at affordable prices, help increase growers' incomes, and raise public awareness of the importance of the agri-food sector.
Among the fruits available are durians, mangosteens, rambutans, dokong, pulasan, duku langsat, pomelos, dragon fruit, lohan guavas, sweetcorn, MD2 pineapples, cempedak, and jackfruit.
