BANTING, Oct 5 — The Selangor Agriculture Department’s Development Project has provided 15 individual and group entrepreneurs in Kuala Langat with incentives worth RM2.92 million to strengthening the agri-food sector.
The incentives were presented by Orang Besar Daerah Tengku Dato’ Mohamed Tengku Harun during the Selangor Agro Green @Kuala Langat 2025 event at Pantai Kelanang, in recognition of the farmers’ dedication to boosting productivity and adopting modern technology.
Among the recipients was Tinase Suppiah, 39, who cultivates shallots and red onions on a six-hectare plot in Banting and Kerling.
With over 10 years of agricultural experience, he now produces 72 tonnes of onions annually from three planting cycles.
Tinase noted that the RM100,000 incentive from the Agriculture Department enabled him to expand his farm from two to six hectares and develop an Internet of Things (IoT) system for automated fertilisation and irrigation control.
“This incentive is a big help. With the IoT system, work becomes easier, eliminating the need for a large workforce. Productivity has also increased,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mohd Hazizi Kusni, 39, who cultivates fertigated chillies in Kampung Melayu Pulau Carey, received RM91,800 to upgrade his farm facilities, including trellis structures for 4,000 chilli plants.
Having been involved in farming since 2007, he now enjoys a net income of RM20,000 to RM30,000, occasionally reaching RM50,000 per harvest cycle.
“Previously, I planted chillies directly in the ground, which caused back pain. Now, with raised trellises and fertigation technology, the yield is better, and the work is easier,” he said, thanking the department and the Kuala Langat Farmers’ Organisation for their ongoing guidance.

Also among the recipients was the Kanchong Tengah Group Project, led by its chairman Saimin Samad, 65, which received RM1.15 million in incentives involving 37 members across a 100-acre area.
Established in 1986, the project focuses on the group cultivation of cash crops, including cassava, bananas, lemongrass, galangal, and ginger, supported by infrastructure and advisory services from the Agriculture Department.
Surprised by the incentive, he said it would be used to improve the group’s agricultural infrastructure.
“The Agriculture Department, under the Madani government, truly cares for farmers. This incentive is a great relief for us, and we will make the best use of it,” Saimin said.
