SHAH ALAM, July 21 — Dataran Kemerdekaan has been chosen as the venue for the Malaysian Games (SUKMA) Selangor 2026 opening ceremony, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said the decision was made at a secretariat meeting, and details will be announced soon.
“The location has been decided and will (be held in) moderation, just to gather contingents with a bit of merriment. The closing is also very moderate; appropriate for current circumstances and cost-saving measures.
“But I believe it can be lively at venues hosting the tournament. I hope the people of the state can support and (spectate) the competitions,” he added.

On July 13, state executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said Dataran Kemerdekaan would “almost certainly” be chosen as a venue for the SUKMA opening ceremony.
He had said that several considerations were being discussed with the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA).
SUKMA will be held from August 15 to 24 with 469 events in 37 sports, while Para SUKMA will be held from September 5 to 14 with 316 events in 10 sports.
The nation’s biggest sports tournament will see contingents from all states as well as Brunei as a guest squad.
