PUTRAJAYA, July 20 — Klang accounts for the most drug addict arrests, at 429 as of June, and highest drug abuse rate in Selangor, said Selangor National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) director Nazir Mohamad.
He added that the figure represents a distinct increase from last year’s numbers, with the most addicts (295) caught in Hulu Langat and 209 caught in Klang.
He attributed the rise in arrests in Klang to integrated operations by Selangor AADK this year.
“Among factors for why Klang has the highest arrest rate this year is because we are performing integrated operations in Klang. This year alone we have done more than 10 operations.
He explained that Klang has many high-risk areas, adding: “Congratulations, too, to the Klang community because they are more aware and we received complaints from local residents.”
He was speaking to Media Selangor when met after the Selangor AADK media appreciation ceremony here today, where media practitioners were recognised for their roles as strategic partners.
Also present was AADK deputy director-general (operations) Zainudin Abdullah.
During the ceremony, Nazir said Selangor AADK is conducting the Drug-Free Aspiration Tour (JABD) to empower grassroots communities against drug abuse, with nine locations in each district and the highlight event to be held in Hulu Selangor next month.
“This year, we’re holding the JABD campaign, where we focus on drug-free villages and we make those villages an aspiration for other villages, to curb drug addiction in each locality,” he said.
