SHAH ALAM, July 19 — Approximately 274.7kg of recyclable materials was collected through the Recyclables Exchange Programme with 99 Speedmart vouchers at the MBSA Recycling Centre in Section 17 yesterday.
The programme, organised by the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), received an encouraging response from residents, who took the opportunity to exchange recyclable materials for 99 Speedmart vouchers as an incentive to practise waste separation.
The local authority said the 43 vouchers were distributed to eligible participants.
"The materials collected comprised 204.3kg of paper and books, 21.6kg of used cooking oil, 23.4kg of plastics, 19.6kg of iron and milk tins, 5.1kg of aluminium, and 0.7kg of beverage cartons (Tetra Pak)," it said in a Facebook post.
MBSA added that the initiative forms part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen the culture of waste separation in society.
"We hope this small effort will become a significant step towards cultivating the practice of waste separation and recycling in order to create a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Shah Alam," it said.
MBSA also expressed its appreciation to all residents who participated in the programme and supported efforts to expand recycling practices across Shah Alam.
