SHAH ALAM, July 17 — The contractor appointed to build the new Bukit Jelutong police station here has been fined more than RM722,000 for failing to complete the project on schedule.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the RM53.36 million project is now expected to be completed by the end of August, more than a year after its original completion date.

He said the project, approved under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) in 2021, had been granted three extensions of time (EOTs), pushing its completion deadline from June 16, 2025, to February 20, 2026.

Despite the extensions, the contractor still failed to deliver the project.

As a result, Saifuddin said a Certificate of Non-Completion (CNC) was issued to the contractor on February 20, with liquidated and ascertained damages (LAD) imposed at a rate of RM6,624.28 per day from the date the certificate was issued.

“The total LAD imposed on the contractor as of June 9, 2026, amounted to RM722,046.52,” he said in a written parliamentary reply yesterday.

He was responding to a question from Shah Alam MP Azli Yusof on the construction of the Bukit Jelutong police station and the measures being taken to reduce delays and expedite the remaining works.

As of May 20 this year, Saifuddin said the project had achieved 90 per cent physical progress against the scheduled 100 per cent, representing a delay of 126 days.

To accelerate completion, he said the relevant authorities had implemented a mitigation and recovery plan, including holding site progress meetings with the contractor twice a month, increasing construction inspections and requiring the contractor to deploy more general and skilled workers while carrying out works concurrently.

“The project is expected to be completed by August 30, 2026, provided the contractor complies with the mitigation plan that has been put in place.”

Saifuddin added that the completed facility is expected to be handed over to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) by October 30 this year.
