SHAH ALAM, July 17 — A trailer driver was killed after his vehicle collided with another trailer on Jalan Besar near Kampung Tebuk Marso, Sungai Besar, early this morning.

In the incident, the victim’s wife, who was travelling in the same vehicle and is seven months pregnant, was injured.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the department received an emergency call at 2.49 am before dispatching a team of six firefighters and a fire engine from the Sungai Besar Fire and Rescue Station to the scene.

He said preliminary investigations found that the crash involved a Hino trailer carrying 36 tonnes of steel and a Volvo trailer transporting a container.

According to him, the passenger of the Volvo trailer, a 26-year-old woman who is also the driver’s wife, suffered minor injuries and was rescued by members of the public before firefighters arrived.

“The driver of the Volvo trailer, a 21-year-old man, was trapped in the driver’s seat and was unconscious,” he said in a statement, as reported by Berita Harian.

He was successfully extricated at 4.15 am but was pronounced dead by the Ministry of Health.

Ashrul Riezal said the driver of the Hino trailer escaped unharmed.
