SHAH ALAM, July 16 — The state government has assured that all preparations for hosting the 22nd Malaysia Games (SUKMA) Selangor 2026 are progressing according to schedule, with priority being given to the readiness of infrastructure and competition venues ahead of the opening on August 15.
Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said this was the main focus of the SUKMA XXII and Para SUKMA Selangor 2026 Organising Committee (Main Committee) meeting, which he chaired today, marking exactly one month before the nation's largest multi-sport event gets underway.
The meeting also reviewed the coordination of management matters to ensure that every aspect of the organisation proceeds smoothly.
"The state government's priority at this stage is to ensure that all facilities and infrastructure are completed according to schedule, as this will be a key factor in the successful organisation of SUKMA 2026," he said in a Facebook post.
Amirudin added that SUKMA XXII Selangor 2026 is expected to be the largest edition of the Games ever held, with more than 15,000 athletes and officials from the 14 states and the Federal Territories participating.
The Games are scheduled to feature 28 core sports, with five additional sports still being finalised, bringing the total to 33.
He is confident that the close cooperation between the state government, the National Sports Council, local authorities, relevant agencies, and the organising secretariat will ensure the smooth staging of both SUKMA and Para SUKMA Selangor 2026.
"InsyaAllah (God willing), Selangor is committed to being the best possible host and to ensuring that SUKMA XXII and Para SUKMA Selangor 2026 leave a proud legacy for both the state and the nation," said Amirudin.
