MBDK cracks down on illegal dormitory in Klang

SHAH ALAM, July 14 — The Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) said it raided a foreign worker dormitory on Jalan Aman Perdana in Klang recently.

Without specifying the date of the raid, the council said its Health, Building and Enforcement Departments targeted a shophouse that had been converted into illegal housing.

The operation was launched following public complaints about disturbances to local residents.

“An inspection of a two-storey shop office revealed it was inhabited by 15 foreigners from Bangladesh who work for different companies.

“The property owner had built eight additional rooms for rent without approval from the Building Department. (The owner) was operating a workers’ dormitory without a Planning Permit.

“Cleanliness was extremely poor, with the premises found in very dirty conditions that don’t comply with established health requirements,” it said in a Facebook post yesterday.

MBDK’s Health Department also issued a notice under Section 74 of the Local Government Act 1976 for the premises’ unsanitary conditions.

Meanwhile, the MBDK Building Department issued a notice under Section 70 of the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974 for modifying the building without approval.

The council added that a memo was sent to the Planning Department for follow-up action on the dormitory operating without a Planning Permit.

MBDK urged all property owners to adhere to guidelines for Temporary Labour Quarters (TLQ) and Centralised Labour Quarters (CLQ), and emphasised the importance of cleanliness and adequate facilities for occupants.

It said periodic raids will continue to ensure Klang residents’ safety.
