KLANG, July 12 — More than 1,000 foreigners were screened by the Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM) during Op Mega in Hentian Klang today to detect illegal immigrants.
The spot-check, which began around noon, targeted shoplots, various business premises, and hostels identified as focal points for foreigners’ settlements and economic activities here.
A survey by Bernama found that enforcement teams scrutinised the travel document status of each detainee to ensure there were no violations under the Immigration Act 1959/63, including offences such as overstaying and lacking valid documents.
JIM also checked for external parties or employers harboring illegal immigrants — including from Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Pakistan, and Indonesia — at premises checked.
The integrated operation uncovered illegal activities such as immoral activities and the sale of prohibited goods in several temporary accommodation units.
The large-scale proactive operation was carried out by 250 enforcers from Putrajaya JIM, Selangor JIM, the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM), and the Selangor Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN).
All those detained were taken to the Selangor JIM headquarters for investigation, and details will be released tomorrow at a press conference by JIM director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban in Putrajaya.
