SHAH ALAM, July 11 — A swirling wind phenomenon was spotted over a padi field along Jalan Tali Air 4, Sekinchan, near here this morning, but caused no damage or injuries.
State executive councillor for local government and tourism Dato’ Ng Suee Lim said preliminary information indicated that the phenomenon lasted between three and four minutes and occurred at about 11.40am.
"The whirlwind formed in the middle of a padi field near the Sekinchan Terminal. Had it occurred in a residential or village area, it would certainly have caused significant losses.
"Fortunately, it happened away from populated areas, so there was no damage. It was simply a unique and unusual phenomenon," he told Bernama when contacted today.
Ng, who is also Sekinchan assemblyman, was commenting on a 57-second video circulating on social media, showing the whirlwind over the padi field.
The footage was recorded by residents in the vicinity of Jalan Tali Air 4.
