SHAH ALAM, July 10 — The Kuala Langat Municipal Council (MPKL) recently seized a premises in Jalan Pulau Carey, Telok Panglima Garang, for carrying out electronic waste (e-waste) sorting activities without a licence.

In a statement, MPKL said the action was taken during an integrated operation conducted with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Department of Environment (DOE) after it was found that the premises had been operating without a valid licence.

“Inspections found that the premises was carrying out electronic waste sorting activities without obtaining a valid licence from MPKL, in violation of the relevant by-laws.

“Seizure action was taken against the goods and equipment used for the activities as part of efforts to ensure that electronic waste management is carried out in accordance with the stipulated regulations,” it said in a Facebook post.

MPKL said the seizure was carried out under the MDKL Business and Industrial Trade By-Laws 2007 and involved goods and equipment related to the e-waste sorting activities at the premises.

According to the council, the integrated operation was conducted to ensure that electronic waste management activities comply with legal provisions and to prevent activities that could adversely affect the environment and public well-being.

Meanwhile, MPKL said it would continue to strengthen cooperation with relevant agencies to ensure that all business activities within its administrative area comply with licensing requirements and regulations.
