BANDUNG, July 9 — The state government plans to expand the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS)@ASEAN to more cities across the region in the coming years, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, following the launch of the event’s inaugural edition in Bandung, Indonesia, today.
The expansion reflects the summit’s role as a gateway to strengthen regional investment and strategic cooperation.
Future editions of SIBS@ASEAN will not be confined to a single location, but could rotate among ASEAN cities based on partnerships and opportunities.
“SIBS is the gateway to Asia. We will reach out to selected cities and work with our partners to make them future hosts,” he said when asked about Selangor’s plans to expand the summit.
Amirudin was speaking at a media conference after the opening of the SIBS@ASEAN Bandung 2026 at Pullman Grand Central, Bandung, today.
He added that different cities could be selected as hosts to strengthen collaboration, dialogue, and economic development across the region.
The Menteri Besar emphasised that Selangor’s engagement with Indonesia and other ASEAN partners should extend beyond trade and investment, calling for a more structured and sustained platform for regional cooperation.
When asked to elaborate on the series of meetings between the Selangor delegation and Indonesian officials held ahead of today’s launch, Amirudin said discussions focused on establishing regulatory engagements between Selangor, Indonesian ministries, and potentially provincial governments to pursue broader strategic collaboration.
As such, cooperation should go beyond conventional business ties, and the ideas discussed in meetings must be translated into concrete action.
“These meetings highlight our commitment to building regional security together, which can be expanded to areas such as energy and even defence-related cooperation.
“These discussions must be followed up and implemented properly so the ideas can be developed and realised,” he said.
Amirudn noted that regional cooperation should be strengthened at multiple levels, including government-to-government, department-to-department, business-to-business, and people-to-people engagement.
SIBS@ASEAN Bandung 2026 aims to strengthen trade, investment, and strategic collaboration between Selangor and Indonesia, while serving as a platform to broaden partnerships across ASEAN.
