Kota Damansara rep urges swift action against suspected illegal gambling outlet

SHAH ALAM, July 6 — Kota Damansara assemblyman Muhammad Izuan Ahmad Kasim has urged authorities to investigate an alleged illegal gambling outlet in his constituency, following a complaint from residents.

He said the complaint, lodged last week, included recordings of people distributing leaflets to promote a gambling machine outlet in Section 6 of Kota Damansara.

“I have just received a video from the public showing that there are activities believed to be promoting a gambling machine outlet in Section 6.

“I have informed the district police chief and officer in charge of the police station so immediate action can be taken. We cannot allow activities like this to continue in Kota Damansara,” he told Media Selangor.

Izuan said he also alerted the local authority to ensure enforcement is coordinated, although investigations into gambling offences fall under police jurisdiction.

“Cases involving gambling are handled by the police with the assistance of the local authority … That is why I have informed both parties so enforcement action can be taken immediately,” he said.

Izuan also said he would seek updates from both parties this week.

"We will check again whether the premises are still operating or otherwise. I hope this matter can be resolved quickly.

“Kota Damansara is predominantly inhabited by the Malay community. I do not understand why an area like this has become a target.

“I do not want activities like this to become (the norm) in Kota Damansara. We need to act early so it does not continue to affect the community,” Izuan added.
