SHAH ALAM, July 6 — The Selangor government, through its Childcare and Care Centre Task Force, has identified 454 unregistered care centres and 447 unregistered childcare centres (taska) in the state between 2023 and 2025, said state executive councillor for women empowerment and welfare Anfaal Saari.
She added that of the unregistered care centres, 273 had ceased operating, 152 have been whitelisted, while 27 were subject to penalties.
For taska, she said 325 had stopped operating, 108 have been registered, and 13 faced penalties.
“The task force’s approach is not centred on enforcement or punitive action, but instead emphasises engagements with operators to help them meet registration requirements.
“The Selangor Social Welfare Department (JKM) also conducted three engagement sessions with taska and care centre operators between 2024 and 2026 to obtain direct feedback.
“The engagement sessions found that most operators faced difficulties registering due to technical issues involving local authorities, complicated application procedures, and bureaucratic processes,” she said when officiating the Selangor Unregistered Childcare and Care Centre Engagement Programme at Dewan Jubli Perak Sultan Abdul Aziz here today.
Anfaal added that as of May 2026, Selangor JKM has registered 996 taska and 819 care centres.
“Of the total, 29 workplace childcare centres were established by government agencies.
“A total of 97 care centre registration applications were successfully processed, with only five applications rejected for failing to meet critical requirements, in the same period.
“For taska registrations, 159 applications were processed and only one application was rejected,” Anfaal said.
