KPDN launches 'Jom Beli Selamat' campaign to combat online scams

KUALA LUMPUR, July 2 — Following the alarming increase in online fraud cases, the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) launched the 'Jom Beli Selamat!: Klik Tanpa Risau' campaign to strengthen consumer protection in the digital ecosystem.

Its minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said the joint initiative by Shopee and the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) aims to intensify the consumer education agenda, particularly in cultivating safer online transaction practices and reducing the risk of consumers becoming victims of fraud.

"Platforms like Shopee provide a channel to market, promote and sell goods, which should be utilised.

"So it is important for us to work together so that this ecosystem can help address scam issues, thus ensuring that the people are safer when shopping," he said during the campaign's launch in conjunction with the Shopee Seller Summit 2026 today.

Also present were Shopee Malaysia's public and external affairs head Nik Emir Nik Mohamed Din and PDRM's strategic planning deputy director SAC Mohamed Lazim Ismail.

Armizan added that losses from online fraud in the country had exceeded RM4.54 billion for the period 2024 to 2025, involving more than 101,000 cases.

Approximately 35,368 cases with losses of RM1.57 billion were recorded in 2024, before rising to almost 66,204 cases with losses of RM2.97 billion in 2025.

For the period January to March this year, losses exceeded RM430 million, indicating the trend is continuing.

He noted that Shopee and PDRM have also developed an educational microsite that provides practical guidance on common fraud tactics, safe shopping practices, preventive measures, as well as access to the National Scam Response Centre.
