Selangor KPDN foils embezzlement of LPG worth RM56,000

SHAH ALAM, July 1 — The Selangor Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) has cracked down on the embezzlement of subsidised liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by seizing RM56,000 worth of the commodity in a raid in Sungai Pelek, Sepang, near here yesterday.

Selangor KPDN director Muhamad Hanif Asa’ari said in the raid, his party had seized 190 units of LPG cylinders of various brands with a capacity of 14kg and 50kg with an estimated weight of 2.05 tonnes, in addition to also detaining a local man.

He said the raid was carried out under Ops Tiris 4.0 at about 2.10pm and done with police after two weeks of monitoring.

“The results of the raid and inspection of the location have uncovered ’decanting’, which is transferring subsidised 14kg liquefied petroleum gas to 50kg commercial gas cylinders in the area.

“Selangor KPDN suspects … these premises are selling 50kg (cylinders) containing subsidised LPG to the industry at a lower price than the market price. A bonded lorry found in this case was also seized,” he said in a statement today.

Hanif said the raid also found equipment such as connecting hoses and plastic bags filled with ice believed to be used for decanting.

He said the investigation also revealed the subsidised LPG was obtained from licensed wholesalers around Banting, Tanjung Sepat and Sungai Pelek.

“Based on this initial information, Selangor KPDN will focus on investigating the supply chain that led to this irresponsible activity,” Hanif said.

The case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
