SHAH ALAM, July 1 — The Selangor Maritime Gateway (SMG) is targeting 1,000 volunteers to take part in the SMG Mega Mangrove Cleanup 2026 programme along Sungai Klang on July 26.

It is being held in conjunction with World Mangrove Day at Mangrove Point, Port Klang, beginning at 7.30am.

SMG said that the programme is set to receive recognition from the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) for the largest participation in a mangrove clean-up in Malaysia.

Participation is open to all members of the public, including students, local communities, environmental enthusiasts, and corporate volunteers.

“Whether you are a student, a member of the community, an environmental enthusiast, a corporate volunteer, or simply someone who wants to make a difference, your participation is invaluable.

“Every registration brings us one step closer to setting a new national record. This is your opportunity to leave a lasting impact on the environment and our nation's history,” it said in a Facebook post.

SMG added that participation is free of charge and that registration is open until July 12 or until all available places are filled.

Registration can be completed by scanning the QR code on the event poster. Volunteers will also receive an electronic certificate of participation, while breakfast will be provided.
