SHAH ALAM, June 30 — Police arrested seven motorcyclists and seized 46 vehicles during an operation against illegal racing, on Persiaran Suarasa 3, Bandar Tun Hussein Onn, Cheras, on Saturday.
The Kajang Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department said in a Facebook post yesterday that the operation was launched following complaints from the public.
The department said in a Facebook post yesterday that 84 motorcycles and six cars were inspected during the enforcement action.
Following the inspection, the department impounded 45 motorcycles and one car, and issued 89 compounds.
It added that the seven motorcyclists were arrested under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous riding, which, upon conviction, carries a jail sentence of up to five years, a fine of between RM5,000 and RM15,000, and disqualification from holding a driving licence for five years.
The department warned that authorities would not compromise with those involved in illegal racing or reckless riding that could endanger lives, adding that enforcement would continue to ensure road safety.
