'LRT3 proves govt–private cooperation strengthens public transport'

SHAH ALAM, June 28 — The LRT Shah Alam Line (LRT3) project reflects the strong cooperation between the government and the private sector in strengthening the public transport system for the comfort and well-being of the people.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the development of public transport networks remains a government priority, despite requiring large investments, as the benefits will be enjoyed by the people in the long term.

He said the success of the LRT3 project also reflects the commitment of all parties involved, proving that strategic collaboration between the government and the private sector can deliver high-quality infrastructure.

“This is another proof of the government’s commitment, through the Transport Ministry (MOT), together with the private sector, in developing the nation’s public transport system. We always prioritise public transport development so that the people can enjoy more comfortable, efficient and effective services.

“The MOT requires a large allocation because the country’s development needs are extensive. We want Malaysia to achieve progress quickly, hence the transport sector is among the priorities. Whether it involves highways, railways, LRTs or ports, all must be completed as quickly as possible.

“Therefore, I extend my appreciation and thanks to all parties who have worked tirelessly to make this project a success,” he said when speaking at the LRT3 Shah Alam Line launch ceremony at the Johan Setia Depot here today.

Also present were Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook, Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, and Selangor Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari.

Elaborating, Anwar said that although public transport development costs are high, the government remains committed as an efficient system can reduce traffic congestion, save fuel usage and improve national productivity.

He said investment in public transport also helps reduce the cost of living by shortening travel time and lowering daily transport expenses.

He stressed that every development project must be managed with integrity, efficiency and free from wastage so that every government allocation delivers maximum returns to the people.

“Many processes are still too bureaucratic. What I want to emphasise is: do not abuse power, do not deliberately delay processes to take commissions that are not ours.

"If all processes are carried out efficiently and expedited, many problems can be solved for the benefit of the people."

Earlier, Anwar took the LRT3 train from Seri Andalas Station to Johan Setia Station, a journey of about 15 minutes.
