SHAH ALAM, June 26 — The Selangor Youth Assembly convenes on July 1 and 2, with a debate on four motions regarding critical issues impacting youth in the country, said Selangor State Legislative Assembly Speaker Lau Weng San.
He said the motions touch on housing, law, urban safety, and health.
“Fifty-six participants were chosen and have confirmed their attendance. They comprise 40 men (71 per cent) and 16 women (29 per cent).
“This year, we also have representation for people with disabilities (OKU) and the youngest (participant) aged 18, who took part in Darul Ehsan Debate in 2024,” he said when met after officiating this year’s Darul Ehsan Debate at the State Secretariat Building here yesterday.

Lau said the youth development agenda continues with the Selangor Youth Water Leadership Programme on July 4, involving Youth Assembly alumni from 2024 to 2026.
He added that the event was organised under a strategic partnership with the Malaysian Human Rights Commission (SUHAKAM) and Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd.
“I hope both these programmes become substantive platforms that allow Selangor youth to not just understand the policymaking process, but contribute brilliant, mature ideas for the state’s future,” Lau said.
The Selangor Youth Assembly programme was launched in 2023 to give youth aged 18 to 35 early exposure to the state’s democratic process and policy debate.
