SHAH ALAM, June 25 — The Selangor State Education Department (JPNS) has handed over the investigation into an incident where a secondary school student was believed to have drowned in Bangi yesterday to the authorities.
The department urged all parties not to spread speculations that could disrupt the investigation, and called on all to respect the privacy of the victim’s family.
“JPNS is coordinating assistance for the deceased’s family, while ensuring that the welfare and well-being of those affected at the school are given due attention,” it said in a statement posted on Facebook today.
The department extended its condolences to the student’s family and hoped for them to be granted strength.
Yesterday, the media reported that a 16-year-old boy was found after he supposedly fell into a drain near the entrance of a college in Bangi near here.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director (operations) Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the department received an emergency call about the incident at 4.23pm.
Meanwhile, Kajang district police chief Naazron Abdul Yusof said a report on the incident was received at 4.40pm.
He said initial investigations found that the incident occurred at about 2.20pm, when the victim supposedly slipped and fell into a drain.
“The victim was swept away by the current to a nearby water retention area. The Fire and Rescue Department, which carried out a search-and-rescue operation, found the victim at 5.55pm, about 150m from where he was reported to have fallen,” he said in a statement today.
Naazron said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel and that the body was taken to Kajang Hospital for a post-mortem.
He said the case was classified as sudden death, urging those with information on the incident to contact the investigating officer at 017-3987188.
