BANTING, June 26 — Visitors to Pantai Morib will soon be greeted by a fresh new look, with a major facelift project expected to be completed by July 1, bringing upgraded facilities and improved amenities to the popular beach destination.
Kuala Langat Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS) district engineer Mohd Hasrulhisham Abdullah said the RM47 million revitalisation project is now in its final phase, with works focused on touch-ups and rectifying defects.
He said that although completion is targeted for July 1, full public access will only be granted once all on-site works have been completed.
“The contractual completion date is July 1, and the contractor is currently completing all work scopes according to the established schedule.
“However, should there be any delays in completing the on-site works, the beach area will only be fully opened to the public once all works at the site have been completed,” he told Media Selangor.

New attractions and facilities
The Kuala Langat Municipal Council (MPKL) said the upgraded beachfront will feature new attractions, including open plazas, exercise and fitness equipment, a children’s playground, an aesthetically designed and user-friendly boardwalk, as well as an enhanced coastal landscape.
The council said Pantai Morib’s new image positions it as a potential hub for tourism, recreation and community programmes.
It added that it plans to collaborate with relevant agencies and industry players to ensure a steady stream of visitors while supporting sustainable, long-term economic growth for the local community.
“This facility not only provides a more comfortable leisure space but also has the potential to become a preferred location for recreational activities, photography and the organisation of various community programmes,” it said in a statement to Media Selangor.

MPKL said it is also planning the next phase of development for Pantai Morib, which will include a new main gateway, gazebos, a beach football field, an open-air stage and enhanced landscaping features.
“These improvements are expected to increase the duration of visitors’ stays and attract more visitors from within and outside the district.
“Indirectly, the increased tourist presence will benefit local traders such as food and beverage stalls, small hawkers, recreational activity operators and players in the local tourism industry.”
Business interest expected to grow
MPKL said it anticipates growing interest from entrepreneurs and traders seeking to operate at the beach.
“If there is a commercial space or kiosk identified as suitable for business activities, MPKL will advertise the premises for rent and provide an opportunity for the public, especially local traders, to submit applications.”
The council said all applications will undergo a transparent process based on licensing guidelines to ensure a structured, safe and conducive environment.
It added that Pantai Morib currently accommodates 11 food court units, nine hawker kiosks, six MyKiosk units and four kiosks, with only registered and licensed traders permitted to operate at the beachfront.

The sea poses challenges
Meanwhile, Hasrulhisham said the project, which began in September 2023, faced several challenges, including unpredictable tidal conditions that disrupted concrete works.
He said unexpected early high tides had previously damaged concrete structures before they had fully set, forcing certain sections to be repaired or reconstructed.
The project also encountered logistical challenges in operating lorries and machinery in a marine environment.
“In some cases, machinery and lorries were nearly trapped or submerged due to the rapid rise in sea levels,” he said.
Hasrulhisham added that unstable weather and rough sea conditions had also restricted beach nourishment operations, with strong waves posing a direct threat to key equipment, including the dredger’s cutter and spud.
