SHAH ALAM, June 23 — Selangor is finalising the implementation of an industrial training allowance of up to RM1,500 through its internship placement programme.
Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said this is intended to encourage students to undertake internships with state government agencies, including the offices of state executive councillors.
“The industrial placement programme is being implemented with an allowance of up to RM1,500. We are currently restructuring the programme and introducing initiatives to encourage overseas students receiving state scholarships to return to Selangor.
“We are finalising this programme for students studying abroad whose expertise is needed by industry, supported through Selangor scholarships and other state government sponsorship programmes that will enable them to undertake training placements in state executive councillors' offices and state-owned subsidiaries,” he said.
Amirudin was delivering his winding-up speech on Phase Two of the Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package (SREP) during the State Legislative Assembly sitting today.
He added that the wide range of state-owned subsidiaries in Selangor creates substantial opportunities for industrial training programmes, particularly in sectors such as energy, stimulus, and services.
“With such a diverse range of sectors, more participants will be attracted to continue serving with the state government,” Amirudin said.
Previously, when tabling the 2026 Selangor Budget in November last year, the Menteri Besar said they are committed to providing an internship allowance of RM1,500 per month to students undergoing industrial training.
He noted that existing internship programmes generally provide relatively modest allowances for university students and graduates, ranging from only RM800 to RM900 per month.
