SHAH ALAM, June 22 — A total of 34 schools in Selangor are expected to receive new one-storey classroom blocks to accommodate Year One pupils for the next school session.
Selangor Public Works Department (JKR) director Shukri Ishak said the RM179 million project is being actively implemented across the state, with the majority of the projects already in the construction phase.
“Priority is being given to the construction of one-storey blocks so that they can be used to accommodate incoming pupils. The projects are expected to be completed by November or, at the latest, December.
“All projects are currently under construction, except for nine smaller projects that are still in the procurement stage,” he was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian.
According to Shukri, the construction of two-storey blocks is expected to be completed in the second quarter of next year, as the building process is more complex and requires larger beam and structural works.
“Two-storey blocks require piling works and various technical processes that are more complex compared with single-storey buildings,” he said.
Shukri said progress varies by location, with some projects having reached the wall construction and roof truss installation stages, while others remain at the foundation stage.
Earlier, media reports said JKR Selangor is actively expediting the implementation of new classroom construction projects, particularly at high-density schools, to accommodate the growing intake of Year One pupils in the state.
For this purpose, JKR has received allocations involving about 102 schools across Selangor. To date, 41 quotation notices have been issued to carry out the related works.
