SHAH ALAM, June 19 — The state government is rolling out a new initiative dubbed the Selangor Platform (PLATS) Career Transition programme to help workers who have lost their jobs, as well as those seeking to venture into entrepreneurship, acquire basic business skills and access opportunities in the digital economy.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said they will allocate RM4 million for this initiative, which aims to provide an alternative pathway for affected workers by equipping them with entrepreneurship knowledge and support to start a business.
“Besides creating job opportunities, the state government believes that Selangor residents should also be given the chance to explore entrepreneurship as a means of improving their quality of life.
“Through the PLATS Career Transition initiative, the state government will provide a pathway for workers who have lost their livelihoods, as well as those interested in becoming entrepreneurs, to be exposed to basic entrepreneurship strategies,” he said during the tabling of Phase Two of the Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package during the State Legislative Assembly special sitting today.
The package allocates RM209.26 million for various initiatives to cushion the impact of global uncertainties on local communities and businesses.
Amirudin added that 5,000 individuals will be offered places in the programme, accounting for about half of the some 10,000 Selangor residents who have lost their jobs this year.
Participants will receive 12 months of Internet data assistance to enable them to access digital platforms, undergo training modules, and apply for financing to start their businesses.
“After this process, they will be provided with business strategy guidance monitored by the PLATS management, followed by exposure and access to the PLATS business ecosystem,” he said.
Participants will also receive travel allowances throughout the programme to help reduce the burden of living costs.
Meanwhile, the state government will introduce a more targeted Selangor Career Programme with a RM1.5 million allocation to assist job seekers, especially those who lost employment this year.
Amirudin said the programme, carried out in collaboration with agencies such as the Social Security Organisation and companies in the retail, manufacturing, and logistics sectors, aims to match workers’ skills with industries that require similar expertise.
It is expected to involve 30,000 Selangor residents seeking employment opportunities this year.
