Selangor Para SUKMA athletes told to focus on mental health

SHAH ALAM, June 17 — Selangor’s Para Malaysian Games (SUKMA) 2026 athletes must focus on their own performance and look after their mental health, said contingent head Lim Yi Wei.

She added that this would ensure athletes remain focused, competitive, and at top form ahead of the major sporting event in September.

“Training is underway and the second circuit will give us a clearer picture on how far our athletes have come compared with (those in) other states.

“I emphasise the importance of mental health; no matter who your opponent is on the day, athletes must focus on your own performance. This is your time to shine!” she said in a Facebook post today.

In February, Lim, who is Kampung Tunku assemblyman, was appointed Selangor Para SUKMA contingent head. Her deputies are Shah Alam Mayor Dato’ Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim and Sepang Municipal Council (MPSepang) president Ani Ahmad.

Ten statutory bodies and subsidiaries of the state government were named supporters for each of the 10 sports contested at Para SUKMA 2026, including the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) for badminton, the Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS) for ping pong, Invest Selangor Bhd for swimming, and Yayasan Selangor for boccia.

The 22nd SUKMA will be held from August 15 to 24, while the Para SUKMA will be held from September 5 to 14.

Hosted by Selangor, the championship will see 474 events in 37 sports contested in 52 venues across the state’s nine districts, with the exception of track cycling which will be held at the National Velodrome in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan.

Para SUKMA features 316 events in 10 sports, to be held across the Petaling and Klang districts.
