SHAH ALAM, June 16 — An 11-year-old boy died after he was believed to have fallen from the seventh floor of an apartment in Taman Sepakat Indah in Kajang this morning.

Kajang district police chief assistant commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said police received an emergency call through the MERS 999 hotline at about 7.12 am regarding the incident at Block AB of Apartment Sri Lavender.

"Preliminary investigations found that the victim was an 11-year-old local boy who fell from the seventh floor of the building.

"The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical officer," he said in a statement.

He said the case had been classified as a sudden death report (SDR) and was also being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which relates to the offence of child neglect, abandonment, abuse or exposure in a manner likely to cause physical or emotional harm.

If convicted, the individual may face a fine of up to RM50,000, imprisonment of up to 20 years, or both.

Naazron advised parents and guardians to always ensure the safety of children, particularly in high-rise residential areas.

He said children's movements should be constantly monitored by adults to prevent such incidents from occurring.
