SHAH ALAM, June 15 — More than 16,000 paddy farmers, agricultural producers, livestock breeders, fishermen, and agri-food entrepreneurs in Selangor are set to benefit from the RM25 million Agricultural Sector Support Assistance announced under the Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package.

Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the assistance was introduced to help those involved in the sector cope with rising operating costs while strengthening the state’s food security.

“Assistance for paddy farmers will be provided in the form of cash payments, while some other recipients will receive support through fuel vouchers and agricultural inputs.

“It is expected to benefit 16,395 paddy farmers, agricultural producers, livestock breeders, fishermen, and agri-food entrepreneurs identified throughout Selangor,” he said during a media conference after officiating Phase One of the Package at the State Secretariat Building today.

Amirudin added that the symbolic handover of the assistance was carried out by state executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Dato' Izham Hashim during the recent Gagasan Rumpun Selangor 2.0 programme in Sabak Bernam.

The assistance's disbursment process is currently being finalised, with shortlisted recipients expected to receive direct assistance by the end of this month.

“The state government is targeting for all assistance to be distributed to eligible recipients before the end of this month, so that the intended beneficiaries can enjoy its benefits as soon as possible,” he said.

On April 16, the state government introduced the first phase of the Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package, with a RM131 million allocation to address the effects of economic uncertainty arising from the geopolitical crisis in West Asia.

Amirudin said the first phase, which begins this month, is aimed at strengthening food supply security while preventing inflation from rising excessively.
