SHAH ALAM, June 15 — Approximately 405kg of recyclable waste was collected at Pantai Sungai Burong in Tanjong Karang through the Love Our Beach Programme on Saturday (June 13).
The Kuala Selangor Municipal Council (MPKS) said that 200 casuarina trees were also planted during the programme, which was organised in collaboration with the Housing and Local Government Ministry and the Selangor Forestry Department.
“600 participants comprising school students, representatives from government agencies, statutory bodies, non-governmental organisations, and members of the local community took part in the programme.
“The initiative aimed to raise public awareness of the importance of preserving coastal areas and protecting environmental sustainability. Among the programme’s main activities were casuarina tree planting and beach clean-up efforts,” it said in a Facebook post.
MPKS added that the programme demonstrated that close cooperation among local authorities, government agencies, educational institutions, and the wider community can have a positive impact on environmental conservation efforts.
“We extend our highest appreciation to all parties who contributed to the success of this programme and hope that similar initiatives will continue to be strengthened to ensure that coastal areas remain clean, beautiful, and sustainable for future generations,” it said.
