KLANG, June 15 — Tourism Selangor is targeting a three to five per cent increase in cruise tourist arrivals this year compared with the 173,000 passengers recorded throughout 2025.
Its events and niche tourism manager, M Raul Mustaffa, said the target is achievable through intensified promotional efforts in conjunction with Visit Selangor Year (TMS) 2026, as well as growing interest in cruise tourism.
"Last year, a total of 110 cruise ships docked at the Port Klang Cruise Terminal (PKCT), bringing approximately 173,000 passengers.
"We hope cruise tourist arrivals will increase by between three and five per cent this year in conjunction with the TMS 2026 campaign," he said after the Viking Yidun Fam Trip programme here yesterday.
He said one of the latest initiatives introduced was the 'Surprising Selangor In 6 Hours' (SAIL Selangor) campaign, which promises visitors a chance to explore Selangor's unique attractions within a short period.

According to Raul, the video-based campaign highlights selected destinations in Klang, Shah Alam, Kuala Langat and Subang Jaya that tourists can visit after disembarking at PKCT.
"The campaign is being promoted through Tourism Selangor's YouTube channel and social media platforms. God willing, we will expand it to include billboards, cruise terminals and onboard cruise ships," he said.
He added that Tourism Selangor and PKCT had previously introduced several cruise tourism products, including the 'Berlin Oceanis Cruise' and 'Cruise to Nowhere' packages.
He said the packages provide passengers with the opportunity to experience an overnight stay aboard a cruise ship, complete with accommodation, dinner and various recreational activities.
Earlier, about 700 passengers aboard the luxury cruise ship Viking Yidun were welcomed through the Fam Trip programme after the vessel docked at PKCT.
They were treated to cultural performances before being taken to several attractions in Selangor, including the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque and Batu Caves in Gombak.

The tourists were also scheduled to visit several iconic locations in Kuala Lumpur, including the PETRONAS Twin Towers and Central Market.
Viking Yidun is a luxury cruise ship owned by renowned global cruise operator Viking Cruises. The vessel can accommodate nearly 1,000 passengers at a time and made its maiden call at PKCT.
