Pasar Muhibah set to revive Shah Alam's shopping scene

KUALA LANGAT, June 15 — A new commercial complex in Section 24, Shah Alam, known as Pasar Muhibah, is set to offer visitors a more attractive and comfortable shopping experience when it begins operations in the near future.

Selangor executive councillor for entrepreneurship Najwan Halimi said construction of the complex, which replaces the former Uptown Shah Alam trading centre, is now in its final stages before opening to the public.

He said the current process involves a ballot to determine the traders who will begin operating at the complex.

"So far, it is called Pasar Muhibah and we are awaiting the final process involving the ballot for traders who will start their businesses there. An announcement will be made in the near future.

"It will have its own unique appeal. We want to showcase products by Selangor entrepreneurs while also offering visitors the opportunity to experience artistic and cultural lifestyles.

"One of the objectives is to attract tourists. We hope it can become like the cultural markets in Kuala Lumpur," he said after officiating the Selangor-level National Youth Day 2026 celebration at Selangor Matriculation College in Banting here yesterday.

Last month, Media Selangor reported that the commercial complex is expected to begin operations in the third quarter of this year, with the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) in the process of obtaining the Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC).

The building, which will be designed with modern Bugis elements, will accommodate about 400 traders and offer various modern and environmentally-friendly facilities to enhance comfort for both visitors and traders.

Earlier reports stated that the reconstruction of Uptown Shah Alam, which had operated for more than 10 years, was carried out following a fire on November 12, 2018, which destroyed 41 business lots.
